The reservoir has a Surface area of 1,190 ha (2,940 acres) and a Water volume of 220×106 m3 (0×109 cu ft) which has been used for hydropower generation plus it acts as a domestic water supply that is used for irrigation. The lake is known for its scenic beauty, especially during sunset, and it provides habitat for various bird species and other wildlife.
Wadi El Rayan is a unique and magical nature protectorate that has an area of 175,790 hectares (434,400 acres) which is filled with natural marvels, epic sand dunes, marvelous springs, beautiful waterfalls, palm groves, and rocky formations.
