Colossi of Memnon

Colossi of Memnon is a twin wonder that for thousands of years endured the punishment of time and man. These colossal statues represent Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1386 - 1349 BC) and were completed in 1350 BC. The statues guarded the entrance to Amenhotep III's mortuary temple but now stand alone in an open field after the temple crumbled completely. Each statue measures 18 meters in height and depicts the pharaoh seated on a throne, wearing royal regalia with images of his god Hapi and his mother & the rest of his family.
